The strategic objective for the Technical Directorate is to ensure that communities are provided with facilities they need in terms of social upliftment and human dignity.
The technical services directorate is mainly responsible for and has therefore been structured to render the following services:
1. Operation and Maintenance of the municipal services in the three settlements of the District Management area namely Riemvasmaak Mission, Riemvasmaak Vredesvallei and Swartkopdam;
2. Housing administration and housing projects;
3. Implementation of Capital projects;
4. Operation and Maintenance support unit;
5. Maintenance of gravel Roads in the total district;
6. Rendering of Environmental Health Services in the four smaller local municipalities.
The council is maintaining the gravel roads on an agency basis for the Provincial department of Roads and Public Works. The department however has informed the council that they will take back the function as from 01 April 2010 and an initiation meeting took place on 03 March 2010. Progress with this taking over has been slow up to now but we are planning to stop rendering the function on 31 June 2010.
The directorate has got of 80 personnel members of whom most are based in Upington. In each of the Riemvasmaak settlements there are two persons and in Swartkopdam 1. The roads section does have workers in the Postmasburg/Danielskuil area, Kenhardt, Askham, Rietfontein and around Kakamas.
